Room for improvement

The more I look at the web in relation to building online services, the more I see most of it just doesn’t work (well). I’m referring more to scenarios like people job hunting, finding clients and finding talent.  There are many other scenarios this could refer to - but basically it’s about finding the people you [...]

Home education uproar

Home Education has always been on my list of options for my boys.  Although I opted for Lewes New School in the end (which is fab) it’s still on my list…just not now, got too much on my plate at the moment. I’m not shy in saying that I think the educational system here mostly sucks.  [...]

That thing shall not be mentioned

A wee story on discrimination against wannabe working mothers…something close to my heart in recent years and experience. Once upon a time, in a land not so far away (Brighton) during a time not too distant (<10 years) I was young and eager to get out there into the working world. I always considered having a family [...]

Who needs graduates, eh?

This article on the BBC has wound me up. The government is urging graduates to consider a spell working abroad, whether in internships or volunteering, to avoid the worst of the recession. The advice is backed by the National Union of Students and is being handed out on leaflets at universities over the next couple of weeks. Just [...]

Tag it for the Software Testing Club

Ever seen something out on the web that may be of interest to us software testers? You want to let people know about it, but not sure how?

Well, now you can :)

A call to join local groups

One of the things I believe in very much is to use the wonders of the internet to make a difference to us locally. This is why we are constantly encouraging members to join their local groups.

It may even lead to things like what Rob Lambert is doing - starting TRUS, a grass roots localised group for people to get together.

Take this as a kind request to find… Continue

Apologies for spammers. They've been banned.

Yesterday and today a couple of people (though I think it was the same person) signed up and tried to leave as many comments as possible on members pages within a very short timeframe.

I've been lucky to catch them quickly and ban them.

Should anyone come across spammy behaviour please let me know as we don't tolerate it here!

A potential directory of software testing people, consultants and companies

Something that has been on my long list of wants has been to create some kind of list or directory of testing related people and/or companies.

So, I'm trying an experiment. Isn't life one big experiment?

Head on over to a new group I created and submit your details to the directory that we will publish.

ID Cards FAIL

In the UK they are trying to introduce ID cards. This is a government initiative that I believe people don't really want, especially with all the money being thrown at it.

However, this is a classic. They are making the ID cards, but have not put any consideration into card readers.

Ooops...

Thanks, Rosie.

I blog about a number of topics, some of which relate only peripherally to testing. If you'd prefer to feed only my testing posts, you can use the feed for my Testing category: http://cwd.dhemery.com/category/testing/feed/atom . I'm happy with whichever feed you want to use.

Rosie,

(I originally sent this to Phil. He asked that I send it to you.)

I'm just wondering about the criteria for including a blog feed in the TESTER FEEDS section of the home page.

Many of them are useful feeds from individual testers' blogs. Good stuff. Keep them coming!

But a few are clearly just marketing, with no useful professional content. For example, we've recently been treated to a series of "look, we've won an award" blog entries from uTest. I think this dilutes the usefulness of these feeds to include such marketing hype.

Keep up the good work.

Hi Rosie, it appears the issue with the time settings on the blog page still exists, as I just edited an entry that I wrote last month at 0003 hours. However upon saving and checking the entry log, the clock read 1104 hours.
I'll send a screenshot by email shortly.

Regards
