Sure the pressure is either the tester or the customer finding the breakage? Whether it's broken or not, if nobody applies the pressure...

It's only broken when it gets to you if you find what it is that needs to happen to break it. Therefore you DO have to break it, although I appreciate the sentiment. That twig wasn't broken until I applied an incredible pressure and broke it. Was it…

To keep it simple I usually plump for the 'i just break stuff' routine, or I did before moving in to a team lead role.

Why don't you start by telling us what you understand of them so far?

Google wave..... let's see how the waves are going to impact our life. I second that this company is coming up with some superb and innovative products and services which is attracting many talented individuals to turn towards them. I am not sure ho…

I'll leave this to people who actually get a chance to test!

You shouldn't need to "police" senior managers, but if there are ways in which the department are working that you think need to be changed then if you're good enough at influencing you should be able to propose changes.

Post Release Defects: What I’ve learnt from them?

I'm hoping I'm ok to link-through to my blog? Is there any easier way of doing this?

Exploratory Testing - Part1

I wanted to talk a little bit about what we’re doing with Exploratory Testing where I work, where it’s come from, where I think its heading and what we’ve done so far.

I’ve been at my current company for around 7 years and as far as I can remember “exploratory testing” has been around for the whole time but for some reason, until recently, its always been used in an “ad-hoc” way and was usually bolted on to the end of a largely scripted test cycle as something of a last minute bug-hunt exercise… Continue

The AST - BBST Foundations - Part 3

Well, that's the course completed. 4 challenging, thought-provoking, but enjoyable weeks now behind me and a wealth of new knowledge to build on and apply in future testing challenges. The course has certainly highlighted some personal development areas for me, which, top of the pile, is a desire in me to start to form some kind of coding knowldge outside of web-based stuff (note: this desire was there to some degree before taking this course).

The final week was a busy time - we (myself and th… Continue

The AST - BBST Foundations - Part 2

I said I'd post another update whilst taking the BBST course and so here it is, mid-way through week 3...

Since my last update, the work load has increased and it's been quite difficult to keep up due to pressures in and outside of work, some expected, some not-so! However, it remains enlightening and I continue to learn a lot - what I learn varies from everything from understanding measurement dysfunction, to content covered regarding the impossibility of testng, to simply learning how to read… Continue

The AST - BBST Foundations

I'm currently taking part in the BBST Foundations course, as provided by the Association for Software Testing and I thought it'd be worth putting together a few blog posts to a) raise it's profile and b) give an overview of what it's like / how it's going for me.

The first course available by the AST is the Foundations course and is a pre-requisite for further courses under the title of the Black Box Software Testing modu… Continue

Simon,

Only just seen the update to your issues. (If you write on my wall I get notification).

It was probably a firewall issue, a person or two have mentioned that they can't access the site from work.

Good to see your profile picture! :)

Hi Rosie,

I'm not getting any joy with firefox either which leads me to believe it's either a site or work firewall type issue. I'll try from home tonight and see if I can narrow the problem down.

I've not experienced any problems with IE though I use FireFox most of the time. May be worth trying with a different browser as a workaround?

If you provide me with details of the problem (typical bug report) I could try to investigate further.
