We were using QTP and QC version 9 and we had set up a windows scheduler to run the script at some particular time. Recently we upgraded QTP and QC to version 10 and I changed the properties accordingly for it to support the new one. As soon as I ru…

While I agree with your point regarding automated tests, I would comment that as soon as you propose 3 reasons automated testing for defects is imprudent you will have 3 posited to the contrary. It's just another case of how our profession is hamper…

May be your environment is different, but my experience is some of the defects are not mutually exclusive. As far as it is the same app (not different modules), ratio of these common defects usually changes over time. In that case, when you look at…

I'm not sure how comparing the defect finding rate with manual testing would work. If one of the goals is minimize the number of manual tests that have to be run, how can you do a meaningful comparison? I might be missing something in your point tho…

I'm intrigued. I couldn't agree more with treating test automation as software development and we do much the same. It's the reason we do code reviews, have standards for our automation code, and honestly is why I'm asking the question here. Questi…

Your 2nd point is something important for everyone work with automation tests to remember! I always thought that the best indication is comparing the defect finding rate with manual testing. Various kinds or reviews such as code reviews or function…

Profile Information

About Me:
I was a Social Work major who fell into the software industry and never looked back.

I started out in tech support for a small software company. I got into it because I was a huge Mac geek (still am, among other things) and the company exclusively developed for the Mac. From support, I moved into an Assistant Product Manager role for one of the product lines there. We had no QA department, so it was my job to test the releases before they went out the door. I saw the need for some dedicated QA so wrote a proposal to create a department and voila!, two years of lobbying later a department was born.

I pseudo-ran the department for a couple of years and then left to get some varied experience. I've been in QA since.

I'm now a Quality Assurance Automation Specialist for a smallish non-profit. I'm hopefully going back to school soon to get some formal (rather than just self-taught) programming courses under my belt.
