Chad Patrick replied to Benjamin Warfield's discussion PBI's, Bugs & Tasks
"I've found it has less to do with TFS and more to do with people trying to cram a bastardized hybrid methodology into an Agile framework. In theory, PBIs should close out each sprint. If the team cannot, it's likely there's too much…"

PBI's, Bugs & Tasks

Has anyone found a solution to the Product Backlog Item dilemma in TFS? The dilemma being mine, because nobody seems to be able to agree on the best method. The dev's are confused. The testers can't see the value. The manager just wants it. Round and round we go. The only thing that's been agreed on is avoiding the Bug as a Task anti-pattern.Where do the testers create bugs? What the hell are we doing? Testing. Checking. Both? All I know is that I'm tired of the argument. And just want to get on…See More

shedfly replied to Benjamin Warfield's discussion How long do you work for the same project?
"It depends, in software we're only limited by our imagination After more than 7 years (just starting my third job) I still struggle to keep up with new features, technology, test tools, test methods and development processes.  Technology…"

Stefan Papusoi replied to Benjamin Warfield's discussion How long do you work for the same project?
"Hi, From my 6+ years of experience I'll try to answer your questions: How long do you stay working for the same project. Between 3 days and about 6 months. I've worked in average on about 20 projects/year until now. The same product at the…"

"Most new comers to the world of software testing think they have no experience. You couldn't be more wrong Sir! Especially if you are a consumer like the rest of us. If you have a home PC. If you have visited a website. If you have bought…"

How long do you work for the same project?

A question that many young up-and-coming testing talents are asking. How long do you stay working for the same project. The same product at the same company? When you start everything and everyone is new. You have the steep learning curve to follow to learn the application under development so you can test it. You have new working relationships to build with your fellow testers. And must find ways of understanding the individual personalities of your teams developers (so you can influence their…See More

Benjamin Warfield replied to Rosie Sherry's discussion How do you decide what to automate in testing?
"This could almost be the same reply as the 'Do we need to talk about automation' thread! When I started at my current company. It became apparent quite early on that 'testing' activities were not adding much value. Because the…"

Benjamin Warfield replied to Rosie Sherry's discussion Do We Need To Talk About Automation?
"In the last couple of years I've seen just how wonderfully varied the software development industry is. From attending the National Software Testing Conference last summer to UKSTAR in London this week. There were testers from the media…"

Benjamin Warfield replied to Rosie Sherry's discussion If testers had a mission statement, what would it be?
"This is a clouded area at my company and not just because it's in an 'employee age' transitional state. The old guard are retiring and new blood is slowly trickling through. The oldies are still stuck in a 2001 way of thinking. They…"

Benjamin Warfield replied to Tram Pham's discussion Will Automated Testing ever Replace Manual Testing?
"I don't believe it will no! And that's coming from my short experience. You will always need a Human to be sure it works with confidence first. And you will always need a tester to tell the automation tool what to test. So essentially,…"

Benjamin Warfield replied to Rosie Sherry's discussion If you had a month to train up a new tester, what would you do?
"Thanks Liya. I have been working in Process Improvement/Process Development/Quality Assurance for nearly 20 years. I have gone from designing, building and testing mechanical machinery in the oil and gas industry to building, testing and…"

Benjamin Warfield replied to Rosie Sherry's discussion If you had a month to train up a new tester, what would you do?
"As a completely new person to software testing I am in a position with my new employer where I can be almost completely autodidactic. I have taken on board lots of good advice from many of the recognised names in the field. Plus everyone else…"
