I came across a great website yesterday  that makes videos explaining stuff. E.G what is twitter etc. What I liked most about this site was their header which read:

I thought this was a really excellent way of  describing what they were all about.

They could have easily described their product as "creating videos" , instead they went for the tagline of "explanation"

So, would it be possible to simplify the concept of software testing into one word?

If you had the same tagline to fill, what word would you use that encapsulates what software testing brings to its customers.

I wonder if it is possible?

Some ideas I had are:

"Our product is....confidence

Have fun!

Our product is... insight.
I was thinking of "understanding", but I prefer Joe's.
To me, the insight we provide may lead to warmfuzzies, or confidence, or peaceofmind, or assurance. But it may also lead to starkterror.

Either way, we show "what is", not "what makes people feel good".

The more I say it to myself, the more I like it:
"Our product is... insight." (tm)
There is a company in Ireland called insight testing (now part of sogeti), however I never really thought about the company name in that way.
Thin line. What if the client isn't looking for insight and you give it to them anyway? Even when delivering 'starkterror', as a consultant I wrap it in a pretty bow and maybe a splash of perfume to ease the suffering.

Talk about "Don't shoot the messenger". Well, as test managers, we always have targets on our backs because we're the one delivering the 'news'. Even bad news when delivered with alternatives and solutions can produce warmfuzzies.

But I over-analyze :)
"But I over-analyze :)"

That's insightful.
Did posting that last statement make you feel good?
It put a smile on my face!

(That's the spirit of my comment - it wasn't a slam.)
So you'd say it gave you a warm fuzzie? I feel you, man, I feel you! I understand the intention. Probably a little too well. You are the reason I'm not more active in forums. Everytime I go to say something, you've already said it pretty much!
?

Moderators - please feel free to delete my replies to Chad.
It wasn't my intent to offend. I don't know where this got off track, and I don't want anyone to refrain from participating in forums.
Sorry man. Text is a tricky thing. I wasn't offended. I took your comment as a joke and my reply was intended to be one, but I guess it got lost in translation. What I meant was, every time I see a post/question and I chew on it and get ready to respond, you have already answered it saying pretty much what I would have said.

Sorry, that's what I get for trying to be funny. Please continue to post, Joe. I find your responses very enlightening and thought provoking. I'll save my jokes for my 4-year-old :)
Yeah, Joe's tagline is good. It's harder than it looks and I think gives some insight as to how you view the service your offer
